What is Specialty care?

Pennsylvania Institute of Endocrinology “PIE” provides specialized medical care for conditions of endocrine nature (see below what is endocrinology). It is important patient maintains relationship with a primary care physician for medical conditions that are not of endocrine nature.

What is Endocrinology?

Endocrinology is a field of medicine that relates to disorders of hormone secreting organs (glands). Such as

Diabetes mellitus (high blood sugar)
Obesity (being overweight)
Hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol)
Thyroid disorders (goiters, thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, under /over active thyroid.
Osteoporosis and low trauma fractures
Calcium and parathyroid gland disorders
Men & women hormone disorders (erectile dysfunction, polycystic ovary syndrome, gender identitiy disorder, low testosterone in men, hirsutism in women, etc.)
Adrenal gland disorder
Pituitary gland disorder

What you need for your first visit?

Photo identification, insurance card, referral from primary care provider (only if required by your insurance carrier), list of medications you are taking (name, strength and dose). Recent relevant laboratory and radiologic diagnostic tests. For example (HbA1c, lipid profile, thyroid function tests, DXA scan etc).If you have diabetes, bring your glucometer and blood sugar log book. Arrive 15 minutes before your visit to complete necessary medical history forms or You can download medical history form from our website fill it at home and bring it with you.
